Manchester United Quintuple Mission Still ON! United 2 - 0 Inter

| Thursday, March 12, 2009

Another great victory for us against Serie A leader, Inter Milan. After months of speculation; Sir Alex Ferguson vs Jose Mourinho, Zlatan Ibrahimovic vs Cristiano Ronaldo, Julius Cesar vs Edwin Van Der Sar, we finally have a clear winner.

The game started quite fast with United searching for early goal and their effort paid off with Vidic header from Ryan Giggs corner. After the goal, United changed their style in defensive mode whereas Inter are looking for equaliser. Zlatan Ibrahimovic came close after his effort his the post but it was 1 - 0 until the half-time whistle.

The only change ahead of the second half feels like Mourinho admitting a mistake: Vieira is off and Muntari came on in his stead. While Mourinho boys still looking for the goal, Rooney who resisted the temptation to shoot and instead cut inside and clipped a ball into the six-yard box where Ronaldo arrived at just the right moment to beat Cesar. Great work again by Giggs in the build up as he drove in from wide leaving defenders in his wake before feeding the ball to Scholes who in turn found Rooney.

Inter's response has not been all that Mourinho may have hoped for - they appear shell-shocked rather than stung into action. Mourinho make another substitution; Stankovic is off and on is Adriano. The Brazilian was only on the pitch for a minute before he was coming close to a goal; his flying half-volley clipping the post and rebounding across the face of goal after a great cross from Cambiasso.

Although both teams had their chances towards the end of the game, none of them managed to change the scoreline. United win 2-0 on the night and 2-0 on aggregate. Mourinho and Ferguson share a handshake and a hug and the old enemies prepare for a glass of wine in. United into the quarters and the quintuple remains on.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern Munich & Villareal Are All Through

| Wednesday, March 11, 2009

3 out of 4 teams that I expected are cruising through to the quarter final of the Champion League. Not bad huh. I watched Juventus vs Chelsea which is sadly went the other way around from what I predicted. To be honest, Juventus played without a luck after losing a player after getting second yellow cards. I think Petr Cech also should have receive a red card for using hand outside the box while another Chelsea player were also using hand but this time in the box which gifted Juventus a penalty.

In the other match, Liverpool easily surpass Real Madrid with a big win. I knew that they're going to lose but not by a huge margin. They're not the same team that they used to be. Bayern Munich on the other hand, finished the game with 12 - 1 aggregate by demolishing Sporting by 7 - 1. Although they're not doing well in the domestic competition, this is surely a warning to any club that they're ready to win the competition.

Villareal also managed to beat their opponent by a small margin. Here's the full result: -

Champion League Round of 16 (2nd Leg) Prediction

| Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Bayern Munich vs Sporting Lisbon
Winner: Bayern Munich (3 - 0)
Reason: I can't see Sporting Lisbon coming back after devastated lost during the first leg.

Liverpool vs Real Madrid
Winner: Liverpool (1 - 1)
Reason: We all know what Liverpool capable of when it comes to defending their lead. I'm sure that tonight they will be in defensive mode and waiting for Real to make mistakes.

Juventus vs Chelsea
Winner: Juventus (2 - 0)
Reason: Although Chelsea has change under Guus Hiddink, I think Juventus still have the advantage playing at home. With Trezeguet, I still believe that they will get through to the next round.

Panathinaikos vs Villareal
Winner: Villareal (0 - 1)
Reason: Although only managed to draw at home, I think Villareal is still remain a favorite for this game.

AS Roma vs Arsenal
Winner: Arsenal (0 - 2)
Reason: Maybe the last few months have been the worst for Arsenal but with Arsene Wenger in charge, they should not face any problem against the Italian side.

FC Porto vs Atletico Madrid
Winner: Atletico Madrid (1 - 2)
Reason: After impressive performance against Barcelona and Real Madrid, I expect the combination between Forlan and Aguero will remain the biggest threat to Porto.

Barcelona vs Lyon
Winner: Barcelona(2 - 0)
Reason: Barcelona look a little bit shaking at this moment but I don't think they're going to lose against Lyon at Nou Camp.

Manchester United vs Inter Milan
Winner: Manchester United (3 - 1)
Reason: With Rooney is back, I am sure this time Sir Alex will feature all the best players compare the one at the San Siro. United should've taken the lead during the first half of the first leg but I think Inter will pay the price for playing it safe at home.

United Searching for Quintuple: 3 More To Go!

|

I think it’s not too late for to say Congratulation to our team for winning the Carling Cup. I was too busy last week with so many things; I didn’t get the chance to update this blog. I very impressed with Ben Foster’s performance that night, although I know he’s capable of pulling something like that. I hope he won’t end up like Tim Howards and continues giving his best service to us.

We still continue the momentum in the midweek with a victory against Newcastle and keep us 7 points from Chelsea and Liverpool who also won their games. We could extend our lead up to 10 points with a game in hand. Most importantly, we were through to the next round of the FA Cup after beating Fulham with 2 goals by Tevez and each by Rooney and Park.

Here's the pictures from the Carling Cup Final, enjoy!
