Liverpool and United too strong - Hoeness

| Friday, March 20, 2009

Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness would prefer not to face Liverpool or Manchester United in the Champions League.

When asked about the draw, Hoeness said: “I don’t really mind, but I would rather not be drawn against Liverpool because at the moment they are very strong.

“I would also like to play the first leg away. For example, playing the second leg at Manchester United would not be pleasant.”

For his part, head coach Jurgen Klinsmann hopes that Bayern’s 12-1 victory after two legs over Sporting has impressed their challengers.

“We sent a crystal clear message to our competitors, they are aware of our standards,” he said.

“We are hungry for more. We shouldn’t be afraid of anyone in Europe, even Manchester or Liverpool.”
